LIMITED EDITION of numbered 950 copies, this is number 545. Folio. 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches. xxiv, 44, [2] pp. Color frontispiece illustration, color title-page vignette, 4 color linoleum cuts tipped-in; text clean, un-marked. Blind-stamped "simile" vellum over boards, yapp fore-edges, spine titled in gilt; binding square and tight, top edge bumped. Comes in the original paper-covered slip case with a linoleum illustration mounted on one side of the box; the box is soiled and toned with splits at the seams. Book plate and rubber stamp of Nathaniel Finston. Good. Foreword by the Earl of Ellsmere, Introduction by E. H. Visiak and a note on the music by Hubert J. Foss. The multi-color illustrations were printed directly from the linoleum cuts of Mildred R. H. Farrar by the Curwen Press. Printed on both Pannekoek and unbleached Arnold papers in Fell and De Walpergen's music types, both of which were designed in the seventeenth century and make this a significant setting for the first printing together of both the text of the Mask and the music of Henry Lawes. PROVENANCE: Nathaniel Finston was a composer and music director for Hollywood studios and served as President of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
