The Type Punches at Columbia University: An Inventory

By: John Peters and Peter M. Van Wingen.

Price: $20.00

Quantity: 1 available

Pamphlet. 9 x 5 7/8 inches. Unpaginated. [vi], 40, [2] pp. Black-and-white frontispiece, specimens of types; text clean, unmarked. Printed wrappers, stapled; binding square and tight, light soiling and shelf wear to the covers. Original sales receipts sold to Dawson's Book Shop and dated 1974 laid in. Muir Dawson's copy. Very Good. The history of the type punches owned by Columbia University is incomplete because their construction was considered a trade secret. The problems which were uncovered in this brief investigation give ample evidence of how little information is available on a fundamental aspect of the 19th-century printing trades.
