Henry Stevens was an American bibliographer. Stevens studied at Middlebury College and graduated from Yale and Harvard Law School. In 1845 he went to London, where he was employed during most of the remainder of his life as a collector of Americana for the British Museum and for public and private American libraries. At the British Museum, Stevens purchased historical books, documents, and journals covering North and South America. Stevens was also purchasing agent for the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, James Lenox of New York, the John Carter Brown Library, and was a member of the Society of Antiquaries (1852).
