FACSIMILE EDITION of a work originally published in 1900 in an edition of 150 copies; this edition printed in Oxford by Vivian Ridler, printer to Oxford University. 4to. 12 3/4 x 10 1/4 inches. [x], 18, xvi, (204) pp. Half-title, black-and-white frontispiece portrait of Hart, Preface by Vivian Ridler, list of recipients of the original edition, index; the introductory matter has neat pencil underlining on a few pages. Gilt-stamped navy cloth, dust-jacket in archival mylar; binding square and tight, corners bumped, affecting the corners of the text block, mylar with shelf wear. Very Good. This book put in order the ancient punches and matrices belonging to Oxford University Press and provided a liberal specimen of the types. It laid the foundation for the succeeding work of Stanley Morison which spanned the first half of the twentieth century.
