Reinhardt was an educator, social and peace activist, and President of Mills College for more than a quarter century. These poems were the work of Sir Richard Burton, not a translation; it is in essence a distillation of Sufi thought. Upon receiving a copy of this edition, T. J. Cobden-Sanderson wrote: "The Book itself is beautifully printed and built up. The title page is beautiful, beautifully balanced and enriched with color and design, and I have nothing but thanks to offer you for your kindness in permitting me to see and possess it." "The ample pages, with wide margins, and the head-bands in Persian style of decoration, form one of the loveliest books issued for The Book Club." O'Day.
