A lovely history of San Pedro from earliest times through the early 1980s. Connects the evolution of the community to the growth of the state in general. Written by Henry P. Silka, a respected maritime historian, best known for his research on Brooklyn shipbuilders of the nineteenth century and contributions to several scholarly maritime publications with special focus on U.S. Navy sail pre-Civil War and the Pacific west coast. Silka was active in the Los Angeles Maritime Museum where he served on the Foundation's Board of Trustees.
