By 1911, when this pamphlet was printed, gold mining in California had long been dominated by well-capitalized corporations. Over time, mining technology became increasingly complex, dominated by industrial technology, seeking efficiencies of scale, while investment requirements grew accordingly. This pamphlet is an advertisement to potential investors in the Golden Sheaf Mining Company; it contains photographic images of the proposed mining site, geological and historical information on California gold, and a "Report on Golden Sheaf Mine" by "expert miner" E. B. Smyth. Romantic gold embossed cover depicts placer miners and a golden sheaf of wheat. The printer, Alfred J. Johnston, was head of the largest printing house in Sacramento at the time.
